Test Lab

State codes require equipment and materials be approved by the authority having jurisdiction or listed by an approved testing laboratory. For those products that do not have approval recognized by the City of Los Angeles, Building and Safety offers multiple services for testing.

TYPES OF APPROVAL GRANTED

1. ONE-TIME APPROVAL- One-Time approval is granted for equipment that is custom made or installed at job site. Usually, the evaluation and testing is performed at the location that the equipment is installed. This testing is also called a “field test.” Application for this type of approval may be filed by the owner, installer, vendor, or manufacturer.
2. GENERAL APPROVAL- When equipment or material is mass produced for distribution, a general, approval is usually granted. The evaluation and testing are usually done in the Laboratory, unless suitable site is prearranged.
